With that max offer sheet signed by Kanter, I'm guessing that only win situation for OKC would be trying to S&T and getting at least something in return. I just can't see them paying 17.5M per year for a player who is not even a clear starting option for them and would give them cap headaches in the future and on other hand not making everything possible to win a title this year could have huge impact on KD's decision next summer.
OKC trade Kanter S&T, Waiters, Novak
OKC receive K. Martin, Budinger
OKC sign Javale for vet min or MLE (1+1 team option)
Portland trade Leonard, Vonleh
Portland receive Kanter S&T, Novak
Minnesota trade K. Martin, Budinger
Minnesota receive Leonard, Vonleh, Waiters
I know it's a long shot but guessing that all teams would have some benefits from this trade:
- OKC improving at starting SG and SF backup, having more PT for Adams (which I actually rate over and find as better fit than Kanter), and keeping at least some cap flexibility for years to come
- if they really see Kanter as a max player Portland should accept (despite I think they went nuts with that offer sheet and not really sure what are their plans for the future now since they are clear loosers of this off-season imo)
- Minessota gets three usable pieces who should fit into their young core and give them some depth, getting rid of two pieces they are apparently trying to sell anyway
C Adams, McGee, Collison
PF Ibaka, Mcgary
SF KD, Budinger, PJ
SG K Mart, Morrow, Robertson
PG Westbrook, Augustin, Payne
not as deep as SAS but I can see them as conteders without injury issues

Another genious -blazers know they are over paying for Kanter, so don't loose other in the process. Either okc matches it. Or says byby

Why would Portland trade both of their young talented PFs for a guy they can get for nothing? I just don't see Portland helping okc. And unless okc is throwing in draft picks they are stuck with Novak.

so basically, You think that Portland made that offer just because they have to much money to spend (for the next 4 years) and now are actually hoping that OKC is going to match? Not like Vonleh and Leonard are key players in their plans and I'm quite sure they actually want Kanter pretty hard, probably hoping that Lillard-Kanter P&R could make wonders at the offensive end.
Like I've said, it's a long short (not sure if OKC would accept that trade too) but it seems like Portland doesn't have intention to tank and their options are extremely limited atm.

Except vonleh and Leonard are the future at PF for Portland. I disagree with everything you just said. Portland wants Kanter, but not for two talented bigs in their early 20's
