Don't hate it for Dallas although the question as always is if Melo would want to go to Dallas. That Mavs team would have a solid mix of vets and young talent; they also have a top 10 pick where they could potentially get Dirks replacement in Markkanen or Ntilikina who has immense defensive upside.

For the Knicks they save a little money with Matthews who won't be nearly the distraction Melo is and can contribute on both ends. They also add a future 1st which never hurts.

I actually like this one a lot. If I'm Dallas, I don't push the pick off too far, as that core only has a few years, but that's probably a solid move for both sides. The issue you'll have is how much Dirk plays. Melo is a 4 now, and that's obviously Dirk's spot. You can play some with both of them in and Melo at the 3, but that would probably be sparing.
