IS it believable that the Knicks could do this? Yes.

Is it believable that the Knicks SHOULD do this? No.

Personally, I think that Dwight Howard is at neutral trade value for his contract. However, he is one of the most drama-filled player in the NBA, and here he goes to a drama-filled team that is as closely covered by sportwriters as any team in any sport. I think that's a recipe for disaster. But could I see the Knicks doubling down on last year's mistakes? Sure I could.

I think they should keep the pick, and be patient and wait a year until Noah's contact is not so horrible. See if they can get 2-3 later picks for Melo, and let their great foreign scouting department go to work.

Shrink: The Knicks can have all their 2017-2021 2nd round picks back for Melo, sixers currently own them all. Give that foreign scouting department 5 2nd rounders to go pluck a euro star.

Why would the Hawks do this? I know Howard's value isn't high anymore but he's worth more than this. Noah has one of the worst contracts in the league and should be considered a negative asset. Thomas is nothing better than a 9th or 10th man for an average team. A lottery protected 2018 pick won't convey because the Knicks are not making the playoffs next year. So I don't see why the Hawks would do this.

Disagree jonesp. Dwight is almost untradeable and getting rid of him is addition by subtraction.

With this deal, I see the Hawks getting something nobody wants (Noah's contract), an end of the rotation player, and a pick that certainly won't convey. So in my eyes, Hawks are giving up Howard for NO cap relief and a bench player who will rarely see the court. Please someone (rkenne) explain to me why they should do this. Howard still puts up double-doubles nightly. He can still positively contribute to his team, unlike Noah. Let's remember the Hawks lost Teague, replaced Horford with Howard, had Korver for half the season, dealt with a lot of injuries this year and still finished 43-38 compared to the 48-33 season last year. That's a lot of roster turnover (3 starters) but not a huge loss in record. I think Howard is a lot better player than people give him credit for. The way the media treats him is why most NBA fans see him as any team's kryptonite. However, he can still be a solid contributor to almost any NBA team.

Jonesp, I'm not saying they should definitely do this trade. I'm saying that is what Howard is worth at this point. On the court he's still an above average starting center, but we've seen him in every situation possible and he's been a problem in all of them. At what point is his attitude and large contract more of a concern than his on court talent is worth? I would say it's close at this point.

He hasn't been a problem in Atlanta yet whatsoever. The only instance I can possibly think of is after the Hawks elimination from the playoffs. He made comments asking why he wasn't in the game in the 4th quarter. I feel like that's completely justified. The highest paid player on any team has the right to ask that question. And it's not like he called out any of his teammates. This incident should not be misconstrued as an attitude issue. He is just voicing himself. I know his trade value isn't high because of the stigma associated with him. But the idea above isn't even enough for Cody Zeller or Kosta Koufos.

He's not in a position where he should be voicing himself. He's the third best player on the team and is known for destroying teams. I don't see players like Kevin Love or Kyrie Irving complaining when they sat the entire 4th and they are still allstar caliber players.

Love and Kyrie sat but they still won the game. You can't complain about a win. And draymond is the 4th best player on his team and he speaks out frequently. So is he not allowed to speak either? Now you're hating on free speech.
