Raptors have been clearing money recently with the goal of avoiding luxury tax. This move doesn't work financially but moves them in the wrong direction. Melo wouldn't allow himself to be traded to Toronto and that is a rich price to pay for Raptors.

Might be pricey but every team is going into luxury tax and it doesn't go in the wrong direction but what if toronto trafed jv for drummond would thag make more sense.

A: Raps don't have their 2018 anymore, can't trade the 2019, and can't trade 2 consecutive 1sts even if they had the picks.

B: Melo is still a good player, but not worth all of that. Maybe JV and 2020 lottery protected 1st, since 2020 would be the first 1st they could trade.
