The Cavs break even in terms of talent here at best, lose continuity, add to the cap, get older, and end up with 2 players who can walk. It really doesn't make mug sense for them.

The Cavs get an extra draf pick, for when this experiments fails
This works and the cavs become champions
Or this fails and D Jordan, IT, LBJ, D Wade and C Anthony leave.

The Cavs have Zizic/ Osman/ The Nets pick and the OKC pick and tons of capsapce to take bad contracts and draft picks. That's not a bad situation for a rebuilt.

Theoretically, if it does blow up, I think they could get more out of Love than just a protected first and I don't think TT would be to hard to move. Plus they could get some young talent out of Korver and Crowder and Shumpert opts in he's an expiring that could be moved for a bad contract. Outside of Jr, I think the Cavs could find favorable trades for everyone on their roster. Plus, if IT and Lebron are walking, there would be the potential for sign and trades given the teams that might want them. The Cavs could potentially pick up some assets there. Also, if the Cavs first is in the top ten next year they keep it and the Hawks get 2 seconds.

But Love is going to be 30 years old and he had some injury's in the past.
only top teams would be interested in him. So there's a little chance they get a top pick for him.
Now they have the OKC pick and they can take a bad contract for an extra pick (chandler or Knight for the Miami pick) .

You have to see this as a long term investment.
I compare it to the Rondo trade. The Celtics traded Rondo for ( the unknown) Crowder, Wright, a pick and capspace.
They traded wright for another pick and they traded the dallas pick for IT. And they signed Horford with the capspace.
This trade gives the caves flexibility.
They could sign free agents or they could take bad contracts and more picks.

Trade love on draft night for best lottery pick can get.

No lottery team would have intrest in an aging player.

The only team with a lottery pick that's playing for a title is Boston.
Cleveland would trade Love to a rival again.
Boston doesn't have capspace and Horford is playing great. so i don't think they're intrested.

No way the Clippers are trading Griffin. I've said before. The Clippers hired Jerry West to architect the next great time like he did in Golden State. It was on his, advice that theY re-signed Griffin to use as a center piece. Not to trade him because the team is probably all done after all the injuries.

Yumbo, obviously that's looking like an impossible task given their lack of young talent, picks and cap space and they had to resign him or lose him without compensation. They didn't have options.

You should probably correct that to “no lottery team -should- trade for an aging star”. Management on bad teams are irrational and make poor decisions all the time.

Also, when did 29 become “aging”. Love is still in his prime.

Couldn’t you see Sacramento trade a pick in the 5-8 range for Love because they make bad decisions all the time? Or Memphis tank this year, and move their pick to group love with gasol and Conley? Doesn’t seem crazy.

The NBA should suspent the Kings i'd they do that.
But Memphis could do that indeed.

Philly keeps the laker puck if it falls out of the 2-5 range. Love would look good as a sixer for that pick if its in the 8-10 range.

Okc trades away two healthy stars and a 1st round for an injured and injury prone star. I can't see that happening.
