I think it costs okc 50-60 mil counting luxury tax. Melo will be waived.

It saves OKC 10 million this year, and it costs them 18 next year. Counting the luxury tax, this would cost OKC like 20-30 million more than if they just waived Melo and just paid out his whole salary this year.

They've talked about a buyout and stretch with Melo. Deng has no reason to take a buyout and stretching him would count more against the cap for him if Melo gives up a little in a buyout. Plus, they would be paying him longer. It makes no sense for Thunder.

in line with the other replies, yes melo’s contract is bad this year, but its only one remaining year, taking on long term money for him makes no sense for okc.

Actually this be a better deal because thunder can stretch Deng and save more money. Plus Lakers give the thunder a first round pick.

@ II Lakers get Kuzma, then wagner both late 1sts. I wouldn't deal a 1st to dump deng. Get deng to agree to a restructure throw him a mil for his troubles and waive and stretch over 5 seasons.

Deng has no reason to accept a buyout and his stretch would be 7,360,000 a year over 5 years. Melo is willing to take a buyout. He's already stated that. If Melo will even give up 7 million that would be less than 7 million a year over 3 years. They may be in the luxury the next 5 years. It just doesn't make sense.
