Heat - Spurs

Heat trade: Whiteside, Richardson

Spurs Trade: Gasol, Mills, Toronto 20191st.

Richardson is the best player in the deal, therefore, the Toronto pick. Heat get rid of Whiteside and his contract and save $15mm in salary and luxury tax payments. They have a decent replacement for Richardson in Winslow.

Spurs get Richardson. I assume that they are one of the teams who tried to trade for him this summer, because he would be a perfect fit and would start at SF.

Richardson is horribly over paid and entirely average. Whiteside is terrible.

Yet heat get an expiring contract a solid pg and a first?

Ooook.

Richardson is the best contract on the Heat team. Spurs would love to get their hands on him. Maybe Mills and 1st for Richardson. I doubt Heat would agree.

Gasol is 38 and Mills is avg. Above avg. At worst whiteside is still better gasol at age. Richardson is equal to better than Bazemore Hardaway Turner making 7 mil less. Heat should say no with pick.

White side as a horrific contract. Simple as that.

And claiming Richardson is great? I just looked at his on/ off stats. He literally makes no difference offensively or defensively when he is on or off the court. To say he makes less than some awful contract as if that’s a redeeming factor is hysterical.

He isn’t bad. He isn’t good. He’s a perfectly average role player. Point to something that says differently. Clearly not enough to offer a first and take white sides awful awful contract.

No doubt Spurs would be better with this deal. Although ESPN recently rated Gasol in top 100 and Whiteside was not present. I agree Whiteside is better than Gasol.

Heat decision might hinge on cap savings and how much value they place on a reliable backup PG. This deal would save Heat $15mm in 2019 and much more in 2020. Gasol is only guaranteed $7mm in 2020. Waiving him could free up a ton more money. They might even have enough cap space to bid on a quality free agent. If they do nothing they will be stuck in luxury tax for next two years with the same team. They might even lose Dragic.

I think the Heat think hard about this deal. The Toronto pick might just be enough to make them say yes. Spurs could even add a 2nd round pick in 2021 to sweeten the deal.

Notdrainer is horribly wrong about Richardson. Heat likely will only have Whiteside another two years. They have already moved on from him. They may consider Gasol better than Whiteside since he can play both big positions and won't complain about minutes. He would be a valuable mentor and to Adabayo and allow Heat to play him more minutes.

If a deal isn't made, it is merely rumors.

Whiteside is one of the least moveable contracts in the league. he's paid a ton, he is a total headcase, and his production on both ends of the court since signing the big contract has resulted in major declines. Last year, he actually was a negative on both sides of the ball.

And what was the level of the 1st rounder? there's a big difference between the 26th pick and the 8th pick. i'm seriously trying to find out how you think he is a great player. Outperforming a second round draft status does not equate to great. I asked for some type of quantifiable metrics to show his value. Your argument that he is great because at least one team offered a first rounder for him, which entirely could have been the 28th pick or later? Cool.

OK notdrainer. It's true the first rounder offered for Richardson could have been from anyone. The Heat rightfully rejected the offer.

Heat believe that he was snubbed for all defensive team last year. They may be biased, but all sportswriters agree that he is an elite defensive wing who is getting better every year.

He has improved all three years he has been in the league. Pts. 6.6, 10.2, 12.9. Reb. 2.1, 3.2, 3.5. Total 3pt. 53, 75, 127 shooting 38% from 3. Steals 36, 60, 121. Blks. 25, 39, 75.

Last year he started all 81 games he played for a deep playoff team. He was a second round pick in 2015 (40th) and has beaten out their first pick in 2015 (10th) Justise Winslow.

This guy if placed on the Spurs with their coaching would continue to improve. He has as good a chance as anybody his age of becoming an all-star. I would take him over Brandon Ingram, Wiggins, T. J. Warren, Randle, Bazemore, Hardaway, Jabari Parker. Pretty much any young wing except Middleton.

Now let's discuss Whiteside. He signed his contract before the 2016-17 season after leading the league in blocks the year before. In 2016-17 his blocks went down, but scoring was up and rebounding way up. He led the league in rebounding in 2016-17. His numbers were down across the board in 2017-18, but he was hampered by multiple injuries and Spolestra's desire to play Adabayo. He still averaged 14 pts., 11.4 rbs., and 2.4 blks. per game. Nearly as good as Kevin Love. He played with Spurs coach Messina this summer and he had great things to say about him. I believe he would thrive with the Spurs and Aldridge. Adding Whiteside and Richardson to the Spurs starting lineup would greatly improve an already good defensive team.

Spurs would be scary good!
