The Suns get Rozier

The Celtics get the Suns 1st (top 10 protected dropping to 5, 3 and then unprotected)

Celtics have spent a ton of time developing Rozier, and they could have four picks in the first round next June anyway. So that deal is not happening. Rozier will stick in Boston until at least July 1, when they'll have a good idea if Irving's knee is sound and if he's ready to re-sign. After this season they'll also know what's going on with Anthony Davis, and Rozier could be part of a deal there.

How would rozier be a part of a deal as a free agent? Irving is in the fold long term and they won’t be able to keep Rozier. The money just isn’t there to give him a deal. All of those picks won’t convey next year and if they do you can turn them into more future assets at the worst or use them to get Davis. Keeping a steady stream of picks wouldn’t be a bad option given all of the talent they already have and how young they are. They could be set up for the next 15 years, if they play it right (which Ainge probably will) .

Irving is not in the fold long term.
Rozier cannot be a free agent next July -- he can be a restricted free agent (if he doesn't sign a deal before Monday) .
I didn't say all of the picks will convey. I said they could convey.
If they knew they could get Davis for a boatload of first-rounders, they might consider moving Rozier. But not until then.

Irving can say whatever he wants, but I wouldn't take him at his word. Teams have been burned too many times with that (Boozer, Aldridge to name two recent ones) . I wouldn't trade Rozier until Irving is signed (which obviously can't happen, because Rozier would be a free agent at that time) .

Matching whatever he gets and then flipping him the following year might be the best course of action for Boston. Or just let him walk this offseason if he gets a massive deal.

I qs taken aback a bit by the articles written that the Celtics are trying to extend Rozier. I always thought he'd be traded, but I think they will get a deal done, which will be beneficial in the long run. IE. He would bring back a better package than he would of he were a pending free agent.
I think Irving will be true to his word, because all along this off season neither Ainge or the Celtics ever publicly panicked whenever those Irving rumors came out. I just think, they knew something that no one else knew. that they were confident that Irving would re-sign.
