Why would the Bucks give up a 7'1" PF/ C currently playing for a 6'5" PG/ SG who is going to have surgery to fix his fractured foot, and will NOT play this year at all?

I’m not what makes Maker more valuable than Smith.

@Btec, No need to. All jaymocha has to do is look at the Bucks roster. I count 11 that can play PG/ SG/ SF, That's including 2 from the G league. The Bucks could use a legit SF, Not another Guard. Especially one that is going to have surgery very soon, and be out the rest of the year.

Torque, I understand the Bucks have plenty of guards but they don’t play Maker really and I think they can get an athletic guard who could pair well with giannis since Middleton and Brogdon are not really athletic themselves. Their guards are average, nothing impressive. Snell is hardly living up to his contract, Delly is trash, Connaughton still needs to develop (so does DDV), Meeks and Brown don’t play, so adding smith could help for next year. Maker hasn’t really contributed much for the Bucks since Henson and Illyasova have been playing well off the bench. Plus with Bledsoe being a FA next year, hypothetically he does not resign, they could slide Brogdon to the 1 and start Smith since I assume they resign middleton before Bledsoe. No disrespect to Maker, but both players could have larger roles on other teams. Just cause the Bucks have many guards on the roster doesn’t mean much if many of them aren’t quite good.

jaymocha, Not quite good enough? Middleton possible will make the all start team, Brogdan was ROY, So that's Average? After his surgery, Zaire will never be back to Zaire! It will take at least another year to rehab him, Milwaukee seems to be doing OK this year without Zaire. Why not keep him at Philly? He can be the 3 string PG/ SG behind everyone else! Sorry jaymocha but, I believe the Bucks would and the other players you mentioned, seem to be doing just fine.

Torque, I did not say Middleton and Brogdon are not good, nor average; no doubt they’re playing some excellent ball. But all the other guards on that roster are either average or not good at all. Yes they are doing fine, but the contributions from bench guards is not really there. Plus they are doing well with Maker only playing 5 games so far. Not every trade you see here will be equal value for each team, and Maker is undoubtedly better than smith. But in terms of what the Bucks need, is likely an athletic guard off the bench in my opinion. And btw Smith is a Sg/ Sf like he played at Texas Tech, not pg/ Sg. I just made this trade up because after the butler trade, philly needs a solid replacement at the 4 after losing Saric. And the Bucks have not been playing Maker, and in my assumption it means they don’t feel the need to play him. The trade is to address philly’s lack of talent at the 4 for this season and provide Milwaukee a guy who can help next season since they’re trading a guy they are hardly playing now.
