Celtics get Anthony Davis and Solomon Hill

Pelicans get Al Horford, Jaylen Brown, Robert Williams, the Kings/76ers first round pick, and Boston's unprotected first round picks in 2019 and 2021

The Celtics do this trade for obvious reasons. AD is a generational talent who is still young and would love to go to a franchise like Boston. He could save this season for the Celtics and put them back into championship contention.

The Pelicans do this trade because they will more than likely lose AD as a free agent in the summer of 2020 if they don't trade him, and they can get more for him now verse if they decide to wait a year. Brown is a great young talent who is underperforming because of his limited role on a loaded C's team. NOLA would be a good place for him to develop and reach his full potential. Williams was a first round pick in 2018, so the Pelicans are essentially getting 4 first round picks to build with going forward. They also get a veteran big who was an All-Star last year to help fill some of the void left by AD's absence.

Davis and Irving are Rose Rule contracts and cannot be on the same team until July 1, 2019.

Celtics can not have Davis and Irving on the same team this year so unless you trade Irving in this it cannot happen! The Rose Rule.

New Orleans has a lot of leverage because teams like the Lakers have cap room for the 2019 season but Davis isn't a FA until the 2020 season. This means that the only chance they can get him is with a trade and that means that come next summer Boston and LA will be bidding against each other.
