Bleacher Report is floating out trade ideas. I like this one for both teams.

Dallas/Orlando

Dallas: Vucevic and Ross

Orlando: DSJ and Barnes

Money works, gives Orlando a PG and frees up minutes for Bamba, let's Dallas play Doncic at PG and could either free up cap space or Vucevic could be resigned for less than Jordan.

I think Dallas would prefer to convey as a late of a pick as they can to ATL and this doesn't help them do that and move Smith if he is being shopped. I think Mavs could get better, longer term assets rather than expiring players who won't be on the team next season. Add a 1st minimum. Not OKC's. A good one.

Doesn't make sense for Mavs to give away Barnes for nothing. The only way this makes sense is if Vucevic wasn't up for free agency this year and Mavs were planning to do a midseason trade of Deandre Jordan. It would benefit them more to just wait and sign Vucevic next season.

They free up loads of cap space and Vucevic is playing All-star level and Ross is in the mix for 6th man this could give Dallas a playoff push and sell Luka to free agents as a guy to play with.
DSJ will be taken a backseat with Luka their and Orl is built around a scoring pg they jus need one so this would be a good fit.

i like this deal for the cap potential it gives dallas. shedding barnes does wonders for their space. they could renounce all cap holds and legitimately have like 90 mil to build around luka. it might not seem like a great return for dsj but it would be part of a larger plan (like when lakers packaged russell with mosgov)

Your larger plan may have promise but it will never explain why anyone would take less than what they can get for a player elsewhere in any given moment? That salary relief is possible along with something useful in return I believe from someone else. Easily.
