This is simple. Knicks brass has been hoarding youth and picks, this leadership group finally appreciates that both are important. To deal a bunch of them to pick up a UFA that has hinted previously that he may be interested in playing in NY makes no sense.

If the youth is being moved, it will be for a guy still under contract, ie. AD. Sure, Kyrie gets more money potentially in a S&T, but if that’s the only way he’ll come, either give up less than the above or move on to the next FA down the list.

If Irving would agree to opt in and this trade happens it would help ny by alot. They would maximize their cap for 2 superstars and get a superstar. Plus have there first round pick.
