SAC - MEM

Sacramento sends: Bogdanovic, Giles, multiple 2nd rounders

Memphis sends: Jackson, Parsons

SAC depth:

Fox / Ferrell
Hield
Barnes / Parsons
Bagley / Bjelica
Jackson / Swanigan

That puts SAC at about $89mil ($20mil under 2019-2020 cap) or $64mil ($45mil under 2019-2020 cap) if Barnes opts out. Cauley-Stein probably isn't re-signed in this scenario.

MEM depth:

Conley / Carter
Bradley / Bogdanovic
Brooks / Miles / Caboclo
Giles / Anderson
Valanciunas / Rabb

That gets Memphis to about $97mil ($12mil under 2019-2020 cap) or $86mil ($23mil under 2019-2020 cap) without Bradley. The #6-ish pick in the 2019 draft would add $5mil or so, but could also return an established starter. Keeping Wright (RFA) would further reduce cap space.

Does Bogdanovic + Giles + absorbing $21mil (for next season only) get the Kings close enough for Jackson? Would Miles' contract need to be absorbed as well? Jackson would be ideal for the Kings - adding rim protection / starting more fast breaks and hitting 3's as a trailer in transition.

Memphis should probably trade Conley and go full rebuild, but their last couple moves don't really show that intent. Conley / Bogdanovic / Bradley would be a solid backcourt rotation, and Giles has shown great potential. They would really have to be targeting certain players (FA or trade) who fit their slower pace / success with veteran players.

I don't think either team bites at this.

Memphis may have enough cap space to eat Parsons expiring deal (trade deadline asset? ) depending on how the options on Valancunis, Bradley and Miles play out. Plus, I would build around Jackson and the wing Memphis will draft this year. Lose your pick next year, but have enough cap space to take on salary for picks to fill the void.

Kings, on the other hand, love both BB8 and Giles and are quickly becoming fan favorites. Although Jackson would be an upgrade, I think the Kings lose too much in depth. Would rather see what the Kings can do in FA with their $20 mil (Vucevic? ) cap space and fun, winning atmosphere.

I believe Kings would definitely agree. Jackson fits great w Bagley since he’s a great defender and can stretch the floor. They can use the cap space to fill out the bench.

Maybe Memphis only does this trade if they win their way out of their 2019 pick (top 8 protected)? They're definitely in danger of that, since Dallas should be motivated to lose.

I think Miles is a lock to pick up his option, but if Valanciunas opts out, Memphis could waive Bradley (guaranteed $2mil out of $13mil next year) and have $20mil in cap space without doing the above trade.

If they lose their pick this year AND Valanciunas opts in, they'd already be just under the cap, so they may as well keep Bradley.

Nba16, I agree that Jackson would be a great fit on the Kings. I just don't agree with the price that has to be paid to get him. Is Jackson so much better than Giles that it is worth giving up the team's 6th man (Bogdanovich) and all the team's available cap space? Especially, since the team's style of play is based all upon roster depth.

Bagley/ Jackson. I don't get it. Both play the same position, and wouldn't likely see a lot of time on the floor together. Huge underpay for Jackson too in the trade.

Bagley and Jackson can play either PF or C. I believe Bagley fits better in today’s nba at the 5.

I was confused about your first response NBA16, thanks for clearing that up. And thank you for the position education about Bagley/ Jackson. Just looking out for me, how nice of you!
