Cavs continue rebuilding / getting picks

Heat received JR Smith

Mavs received Tristan Thompson and Colin Sexton

Blazers received Kevin Love

Cavs received
- Ryan Anderson, 2022 2nd rp (less favorable pick from Nuggets or 76ers) and 2023 1st rp (Top 3 Protected) from Heat
This trade will give Heat the Cap Space they need by waiving Smith right away to sign free agent/s this season.

- Courtney Lee, 2020 2nd rp from Mavs (more favorable pick from Warriors or Rockets), 2020 1st rp from Mavs (Top 3 Protected) and 2022 1st rp from Mavs (Unprotected) from Mavs
This trade is to fill out their need in PG and C positions. Sexton will be a great addition to this team after they traded Dennis Smith Jr. to the Knicks. Tristan will fill out C position and he played for Texas so it should be a fresh start for him. Mavs roster would be ready to get back to playoffs after this.

- Evan Turner, Mo Harkless, 2024 1st rp (Lottery Protected), 2022 1st rp (Unprotected) from Blazers
Love to Blazers hit the rumor news since 2016. Now, Blazers can get him for two overpaid players and also by giving away two 1st round picks that will obviously land in the latter part of 1st round.

Cavs starting 5

PG Darius Garland
SG Dylan Windler
SF Cedi Osman
PF Larry Nance Jr.
C Ante Zizic (a potential break for Ante!)

Jordan Clarkson and Kevin Porter Jr. will come off the bench to give Cavs' 2nd squad a scoring punch.

Is this a joke? Cavs give up JR contract, Love, Thompson, and Sexton for a late 2nd and a 1st. They can get that from JR contract alone.

My fault JoyBoyToy I only read what Heat gave Cavs. That would be a real good return for Cavs, but I don't think Mavs could trade the 2 1st.

I read that the same way. Haha. The Mavs can’t trade the 20 or 22 picks though because of the Siepen rule.

Thanks nick420 and rkenne_16
It's true Portland would not give two 1st rds and would provide high protection to its pick. Also stepien rule only applies if portland has traded their 2021 to other team. As far as I know portland still owns it. Or do they.
