If Butler says there is no way he returns to T-Wolves which he kind of already has but not straight up said it. They won't get any huge offers at trade deadline unless Butler commits to the team he gets traded to which I doubt happens.

At trade deadline if Butler says he is gone and won't commit to anyone trade between thunder magic and T-Wolves.

Thunder get Butler, swap get the worst 2021 1st with T-Wolves
T-Wolves get Fournier, Ferguson, swap get the best of 2021 1st, 2020&2021 2nd round picks from thunder
Magic get Schroder

Wolves get a starting SG to replace Butler, a young prospect in Ferguson (20), the better pick between them and thunder in 2021 and 2 2nd picks. If Butler puts them in a situation where they have no leverage I think this is a good deal for them. They get a couple picks another starting SG and a young prospect I don't see them getting better than that.

Thunder take another shot at a big 3 or big 4 if you count Adams like I do but that's another topic for another time. This time I know Butler works better than Melo. Butler plays defense and knows how to move the ball better than Melo did. Butler has said he wants to win and Thunder is definitely all about winning right now. Butler would give them a fighting chance at Warriors in my opinion, a better chance than Rockets for sure.

Magic do this to get a starting PG. Magic desperately need a good playmaker and Schroder can fill that playmaking position. Schroder's contract isn't that great but it is cheaper than Fournier's so they aren't losing contract wise.

Thunder lineup
Westbrook/ Felton
Butler/ Abrines/ Diallo
George/ Roberson/ TLC/ Nader/ Singler
Grant/ Patterson
Adams/ Noel
They make 1 or 2 trades with 1 or 2 SF to get another bigman and or PG after this trade to even out their depth.

It feels light even for what could be a short rental. That pick is to far down the line and Fournier is arguably not worth the money. I think Ferguson’s value might be getting overstated on here by Thunder fans. I think at most he’s equal to a late first and I think most teams would prefer the late 1st.

@ rkenne_16 Not to mention the Magic get a lousy return.

Yeah, I don't think they get this little from Butler. Look at what Cousins was traded for as a deadline deal. A recent lottery pick and a first. Fournier (a bad contract for a decent player), Ferguson (a fringe rotation player that's young), and a pick swap doesn't do it.

Dacman, maybe, they do need a pg and I think Schroeder only has slightly less value than Fournier. Schroeder is probably the more talented guy, but his other issues diminish that.

Bmiller66 Pelicans got Cousins for a season and a half so you can't compare that package to what Wolves would get for Butler since Butler is only half a season.

My mistake, you're right, he had 1.5 years left. I think the comparison is close though, because Cousins is also a cancer that Butler isn't. Butler could also be compared to George or Leonard.

No matter how you look at it, this is a poor return for Butler. Might as well keep him, and see if he actually walks away from the money.
