I think Charlotte prefers to use the cap space instead of taking Hayward. The late lottery pick usually has less value, than a player you can sign for 10-12 million. Also paying 60 million for Hayward is bad, especially as they could be in the luxury tax.

That late lottery pick you are talking about is top 6 protected next yearand unprotected in 2021. When the Grizzlies are a lottery team.

From what I can tell, Boston can free up enough cap space to sign him outright, so why give up a likely top 10 pick in the next two years?
