There's a little rumor that just dropped on Bleacher Report that the Knicks are "gathering intel" on Chris Paul for a potential run at a trade this summer.

What would a potential deal look like?

Who wins in that deal?

Why would either side do it?

The Knicks would likely have cap space (if they waive Portis, Gibson, Ellington, Payton, and Bullock) to absorb his salary without sending anything back. Or those guys could be packaged to be traded and potentially waived, as they all have little or no guaranteed salary. Not sure about deadlines on picking up their guarantees, but either way, the Knicks don't need to send matching salary.

The Knicks do it because they're the Knicks. They need names, even if it's to the detriment of the team.

OKC does it to get out of a really bad contract and to move on to their youth full time. If they can get back no contracts back from Paul, it frees up a lot of flexibility in trades.

For what is involved in the trade. Maybe Knox and the 2023 Dallas first? I can't see NY giving up much more than that.

Bmiller- why does okc need youth movement. If they can win some rebuild with what 6 firsts over next three years. Get the guts in games that matter.

OKC can’t win it all as constructed. They don’t have the top end talent, especially when Paul declines, which isn’t far off looking at his age. They’re a minimum of one superstar short of competing.

If OKC doesn’t go a major youth movement around SGA, they’re going to just continue the Westbrook era of first round exists for the next 5-7 years.

6 firsts over 3 years are nice, but are any of those in the lottery if they consistently make the 7 or 8 seed? So 6 picks in the 16-30 range. That gets you 3 role players and 3 busts most likely. That just continues the mediocrity.
