Could the Wizards do this if they feel they're losing Beal?

LA-Wizards S&T

LA: B Beal
Wizards:Westbrook+ 1rnd pick LA 2027 and 2029

As far as sign-and-trades go, the value is pretty fair. Wizards get an expiring contract and what will likely be two lottery picks. Not sure how interested Beal would be in joining the Lakers circus though, especially with Bron potentially leaving soon.

The Wiz could and would do it, but it's 100% up to Beal.

After thinking about it more, the Lakers probably don’t have to give 2 first rounders. If Beal wants out, getting a likely lottery pick out of him is way better than losing him for nothing. Hurts that the pick is 5 years down the line, but the Wizards have very little leverage in this situation. Only leverage they’d have is if they can create a bidding war between two teams that Beal wants to play for. Otherwise, the Wizards have to take what they can get.

Lakers would be hard capped and quite a few roster spots yet to be filled.

Also, pretty sure Washington will want more current draft picks instead of waiting 5 years for the rebuild.

@Fredman sure that's what the Wizards want, but they have no say in the matter if it's a sign-and-trade like this. They'd gladly wait 5 years for a lottery pick rather than watch Beal leave for nothing. Washington could've got a much better package for Beal if they moved him last offseason, but they didn't, so here we are.

Casual - It will take the Laker's at least 1 first round pick to get out from Westbrook, so what value are the Lakers giving up to get Beal?

And the Wizards would have enough leverage. They don't have to do a sign and trade with Beal if they don't want to. If Beal demands a trade to the Lakers, the Wizards can simply say no.

@Casual what team has a max salary slot cap space available to sign Beal that would actually make that offer? Portland? OKC? Just not seeing him signing with a lottery team.

So the odds of Beal leaving for "nothing" is pretty thin. Also taking on garbage is not better than "nothing".

How does Wizards have leverage if Beal says he doesn’t want to return?

@Casual. If the Kings were able to get Smith or Holmgren in the draft, I would offer the Wizards Barnes + Holmes + 2023 and 2025 unprotected first for a 5-year signed Beal.

Fox
Beal
Holiday
Smith/ Holmgren
Sabonis.

@Casual - I'm not so sure Washington has no leverage here. Raptors had no leverage with Lowry because they were going to take care of their GROAT, but they still held out for the player they wanted all along in Achiuwa.
