Nobody thought they were getting the 7th pick for Grant did they? Most of these players don't have the value that most people think.

It’s been fun trying to convince the pistons fans that this was the likely outcome.

I was called an idiot, and Grant ended up being traded for less than I thought.

Pistons get a first and cap space. It could've been worse I guess, barely.

enjoy it cause it was a salary dump to get Ayton.

why are you enjoying this btw? i am just curious.

Wow, just saw this. Grant for '25 first (via Bucks) and 3 seconds (#36 this year, then '25 and '26).

Only thing I can think is Pistons are clearing space and playing time for whoever they pick at 5, and to make a run at Ayton.

Pistons management probably feels this is just part of the price tag for Ayton, and if they get him then they win the trade from their perspective. but it does seem a little short when you think of RoCo getting 2 1sts in recent years. would have thought Grant's value would be close.

could end up very enjoyable.

And what happens if Phoenix matches Detroit's offer for Ayton?

11.) 23 Jun 2022
23 Jun 2022 02:12:17
Or Ayton never comes to Detroit and you traded Grant away for very little.

Phx will not just let ayton go. For 1 ayton wants as much money as he can get so if he wants out it has to be a sign and trade or he loses that 5th year. 2 if phx matches a Max offer it saves them more then if they offer him one. 3 even if they don't want to pay him max money they can sign him and then trade him later when they can take back full salary. And 4 any team that offers ayton a Max deal will have to wait for phx to decide if they will match. Causing them to miss out on all the other free agents if or I should say when phx matches.

then we are left with close to 60 mil in cap space.

It really feels like Hayward ends up in Detroit as a salary dump.

@Skillz - an RFA can not sign a 5 year contract in a sign and trade. the salary and terms (years and annual increases) can only be the max 4 year that any team with space can offer. Ayton only gets 5 years if Phoenix offers it and he signs that deal. yes, Phoenix can match and trade later but if he doesn't want to be there they run the risk of him messing up team chemistry or just go out and dog it like Vince Carter did to the Raptors when he forced his trade out of Toronto. it might still be their best move, but it carries risk in itself.

man i had to come back to this post. the Pistons wanted 2 specific guys and got them both.

Orlando "might" regret not taking Smith #1 but at least they got their franchise player if he is as good as advertised.

i am really enjoying this. Troy Weaver took Jerami Grant and magically turned him into Jalen Duren. God Mode Shxt!
