Draft Day Trade

Spurs/76ers

Spurs get Okafor, Stauskas, and 2 (early) second rounders

76ers get Mills and 2017 1st (assuming 26-30)

Mills is an expiring contract so couldn't be a draft day trade. I'm not sure how willing spurs would be to part with mills but he may command more money than they are willing to pay him in FA. I'd love to see Okafor in SA would be great for his career with Pop, Aldridge and Gasol to teach him. Stauskas would likely turn into a solid contributor too. I like the move for Spurs to get younger however I think they'd have to have a pg in mind to replace Mills since Parker is getting up there too and Murray looks too raw to play significant minutes even just off the bench.

Fairly poor return for the 76ers. I'd probably opt to hold on to Okafor since with a consistent role as a backup he should be able to improve his value some. 76ers should seek to move some of their 2nds tho since they have a ton next few years.

New Orleans / Philly

NO gets Okafor and Bayless

Philly gets Holiday Asik and 2018 top 10 protected

NO unloads Asik bad contract, Davis gets long term front court mate with Okafor and then can still get a top guard in 2017 draft as they sit at the 5th worse record in the league

Philly (obviously) absorbs Asik and could look for 3rd party but they have the money to pay him and it's a veteran big presence that could help Noel, Embiid, and Holmes. 76ers then can get a leg up to resign Holiday (potential great fit w Simmons) in the offseason and gets another 1st in the process. Asik's contract isn't that bad for a backup center any longer and Holiday is an upcoming unrestricted FA so I think it complicates the trade. Having Holiday however allows the 76ers to give him 7.5% raise annually (as opposed to 4.5%) and sign him to up to five years (instead of 4). They can also exceed the salary cap to sign him if he is on the team but I don't see that coming into play for 76ers.

I don't think its a bad trade for 76ers but I could understand them saying no. Unless Pelicans have no interest in resigning Holiday I think they'll say no to this trade since I think they could probably just give up 2018 pick for Okafor and keep Holiday.

2.) 07 Feb 2017 02:22:08
I don't think Holiday should get the max.

3.) 08 Feb 2017 01:23:45
If the Sixers agree to take Asik's contract, then the pick will have no protections.

4.) 08 Feb 2017 02:22:54
I like this trade a lot more than the rumored deal for Ajinca. I don't see the Pels turning down a deal like Okafor and a 2nd for Holiday.

POR / NYK

Portland gets Melo

Knicks get Turner, Aminu, and 2017 1st

jimb3114

1.) 27 Jan 2017 20:18:25
I've seen this idea on a few blazer fan pages. If Melo would wave his no trade clause to come to Portland (highly doubtful), I'd take a chance on him at a low cost.

My idea of a trade:

(Crabbe or Turner), (pick one of Aminu, Leonard, Vonleh), and Clevelands 2017 first.

I wouldn't include McCollum ever, and I wouldn't think I'd include portlands 2017 first either, but for two role players and a late first, I'd take the gamble of taking on Melo.

2.) 27 Jan 2017 22:41:43
I would be good with Turner, Vonleh and Cleveland's first.

3.) 27 Jan 2017 23:06:58
I don't think Lillard, McCollum, and Melo could work

4.) 28 Jan 2017 00:22:58
I agree with NBA not loving the fit of Lillard, McCollum and Melo as all fairly ball-dominant offensive focused players that all do most of their work on the perimeter. The relatively low price makes it tempting for Blazers tho. I don't see Melo wanting to go to Portland or liking it from a basketball standpoint. This season they have proven that the roster still needs some tweaks to be a contender primarily better bigs.

5.) 28 Jan 2017 00:26:35
Lillard, McCollum, and the pieces they have now aren't working. They need to shake it up. If they can get a player of melo's quality for very little, it might be worth the chance. The defense would scare me though.

MEM / NYK

Memphis gets Melo

Knicks get Parsons and 2017 1st

jimb3114

1.) 27 Jan 2017 21:07:24
Denver owns the 2017 pick

2.) 28 Jan 2017 00:26:24
I like the concept with Memphis pretty much in win now or bust mode and having committed big bucks to Parson who has struggled to remain healthy. Parsons when healthy is a very solid player with a diverse skill set and is younger than Melo.

Talent-wise I think Parsons is better than most offers I believe the Knicks would accept. Once again there is the caveat that Melo hasn't said he would go to Memphis but I think its becoming clear that he isn't wanted in NY any longer and that although he will obviously have his preferred teams if those don't work out he will have to consider places that make sense from a basketball standpoint and I think Memphis is one.

LAC / Philly / NYK

LAC gets Melo, Rodriguez and Holiday

Philly gets Crawford and Jennings

NYK get Okafor, Rivers, W Johnson, and B Johnson

jimb3114

1.) 27 Jan 2017 20:47:02
sixers don't want either

2.) 28 Jan 2017 00:28:34
Just leave the 76ers out of it as they'd need more and deal doesn't really make any sense for them to be a part of.

no need to force up to #3 there are plenty of guards in this draft.

Chicago needs to send a couple seconds or a future 1st to Boston to sweeten up the deal. They are giving up a prospect for a dominant scoring big and basically Jerekbo = Mirotic (imo) . Boston only trades Bradley if it's literally too good to turn down.

Magic and Nuggets each say no in each scenario.

I would do this as a sixers fan. It unfortunately hits a bit of a reset in the process, but now that Embiid has proven to be a rising super star it is time to build around him with shooters.
Fultz (BYK) / McConnel / Bayless
Monk (PHI) / Stauskus / Henderson
Covington / Jackson (LAL)
Simmons / Saric / Ilyasova (resign if 6~8 mil)
Embiid / Holmes.
