SAC - TOR

Sacramento receives: Siakam

Toronto receives: Mitchell, Bagley, Ramsey, Thompson, '22 1st rd pick (protected top 14 in '22, top 12 in '23, top 10 in '24)

SAC depth:
Fox / Haliburton / FA
Hield / Davis / James
Barnes / Harkless / Woodard / King (2W)
Siakam / FA / Metu
Holmes / Len / Jones / Queta (2W)

TOR depth:
VanVleet / Mitchell / Flynn / Dragic
Trent / Ramsey / Johnson (2W)
Anunoby / Watanabe / Dekker / Wainright / Champagnie (2W)
Barnes / Boucher / Achiuwa
Birch / Bagley / Thompson

Trading for Siakam addresses a lot of the Kings' roster issues and puts them into playoff contention.

With defensive-minded, foundational type players like Scottie Barnes and Davion Mitchell, Toronto could be just a couple of draft hits away from a full rebuild.

Since the Raptors probably don't want Hield and the Kings are barely sending enough salary to make the trade work, the only things that could really change in this framework are Mitchell / Haliburton (swapping in Haliburton would remove the '22 1st), Ramsey / James (TOR could waive James' non-guaranteed $), and other picks if the trade needs more balancing. I think the Kings hold the line on refusing to include Haliburton though, so maybe that's where they fall out of the bidding war.

So in December when Mitchell and Thompson are eligible to be traded, Toronto will have 3 vacant roster spots to complete this trade?

OK so send James (waive) instead of Ramsey and then there's 2 spots to free up. With contracts like Dragic or Thompson in this scenario, the Raptors could easily buy someone out or make more moves. Toronto's non-guaranteed / end of the bench guys aren't holding it up if they start to target someone like Mitchell.

Nope. got to get them on the roster before they can be waived. And everyone's contracts will be guarenteed by December.
