Not saying it's a bad offer, but there's nothing there for Toronto to get excited about.

Will somebody offer more, considering it may be a six month rental?

Although it’s hard ta argue yer “is anyone gonna offer more” comment, it’s also hard to believe with Masai’s history that he would trade just for the sake of trading in this scenario. If he’s not getting any real building blocks he just as well stay with the devil he knows.

Seems crazy for anyone to offer too much of can just give him a large contract this summer and not give up anything.

Kings wait for the offseason where they can offer less in a S&T.

The motivation for making a trade on a “potential rental” is the fact you acquire his bird rights which gives you the ability to offer more years and money than any other team AND go over the salary cap to do so. Without those bird rights, if you do not have the cap space to sign him out right, which only a couple teams are projected to have this upcoming free agency (recognizing several of them have their own free agents to resign and therefore far less of a threat to steal), you would require a sign and trade which you CAN NOT accomplish without the Raptors help! Why would they help if there is nothing in it for them? Why would they take on crappy matching contracts they would be obligated to fulfill therefore taking away valuable roster spots and cap room? It will be interesting to watch this all play out. Who takes the risk, a team that offers something the raps accept knowing they have a few months to convince him to resign with the advantages they have by acquiring his bird rights? Or the Raptors for NOT panicking and holding out for better offers for your best player knowing he is a flight risk but still holding his bird rights? Make NO mistake. This is NOT a FVV situation, Raptors know he’s got a max deal (or near max deal) coming so the ability for someone to “overpay” is truly not there.

What leverage does Toronto have? Siakam says I will sign to play In Sacramento for whatever cap space or I sign and play in Sacramento at a higher price and Toronto gets Barnes + a 2025 first. So Toronto gets a little something or absolutely nothing.
