Why mortgage your future for Giannis when they can outright sign him in 2021 without giving up those firsts?

Absolutely no guarantee they can Giannis in the offseason. Might as well get him now and try to lock him up but you take a risk by trying to let it happen in Free agency. Giannis is your future if you can get him to sign back. I think it's a big risk to try and get him in free agency. They'd only do this trade if they knew they could get him to sign back. It'd be a lot like what the Lakers did for Davis. Plus, it gives them a chance for Giannis to play with Lowry and Ibaka while they are finishing up their prime years. If you wait till the 2021-2022 season Ibaka will be 32 yrs old and Lowry will be 36. But it is a massive risk and all those picks will come back to haunt them if Giannis walks. If anyone trade for Giannis, they are going to have to give up a massive Haul.

If they wait and do this at the deadline, I think they can include FVF. We don't have a clue who Giannis wants to sign with. He is very close with Masai Ujiri.
