Since Phoenix apparently does not feel that DeAndre Ayton deserves a max contract, it would make sense for a Sign-and-Trade situation.

Ayton signs a 4-year, 96 million contract with a player option for the 4th year.

This seems pretty fair for both teams, considering Phoenix is not going to receive a massive haul for its disgruntled player.

Mark Williams, drafted with the 9th pick, will provide an immediate impact for the Suns and will serve as a replacement for Ayton long-term. The Suns also get the 38th pick, used to select a future Chris Paul replacement in JD Davison.

The Spurs get an all-star-caliber player who can provide an immediate upgrade at the center position. While it may not be a win-now move, Ayton is still young and can be a leader for the rest of the team.

I had a similar trade yesterday with Peoltl and 9 for Ayton. I think it makes sense for both sides.

1. Collins Huerter and 16 is better than this package. Ayton has more trade value than a UFA.

2. Ayton is a RFA, that means the Suns actually have some leverage to be able to get assets out of a team to where they will let Ayton go and not match

Lavine is a UFA and the Bulls have ZERO leverage with him in ANY S&T. Lavine can sign with a team outright and the Bulls couldn’t do anything about it. That being said you’re not getting a young all star caliber PF, a good young SG who shoots 39% from 3 and the 16th overall pick for an unhappy UFA.
