PHI: J Clarkson and 1-3 protection removed from '17 Laker's pick

LAL: E Illyasova, N Noel, R Covington

PHI gets a young very good combo guard locked up for a decent price for 4 years. He can be effective off the ball when Simmons runs point. They clear their big man log jam and get out of having to offer/ match a large offer for Noel next offseason. They also guarantee the Laker's pick conveys this year in a very solid and deep draft.

PG: Clarkson/ Bayless
SG: Stauskus/ Henderson
SF: Simmons/ Jackson or Tatum ('17 lakers pick)
PF: Saric/ Holmes
C: Embiid/ Okafor

LAL: Get two young defensive players to help improve their team defense and can still grow with their young core (Illyasova is expiring and there to match salaries) . They have to get rid of one of their better players to do so, but they take another step forward

PG: Russell/ Williams/ Huertas
SG: Ingram/ Young
SF: Deng/ Covington
PF: Randle/ Nance Jr/ Black
C: Noel/ Mozgov/ Zubac

Awful for Lakers. Don't think they'd do just Clarkson for it let alone completely relinquish the laker pick. Noel has very little value and Lakers have less cap space than 76ers and less likely to be willing to pay Noel. For something like this to work I think 76ers would have to be willing to take Deng or Mozgov's contract. In theory he could be a good (and very expensive) mentor to Simmons.

The Laker's pick as of right now is likely out of the top 3 so they wouldn't get the pick anyway. Even if they get a top 3 pick, all the best prospects are PGs or SFs. Are we committed to Russel and Ingram at those positions for the future or are we going to constantly draft a new prospect and never finish developing them before we get a replacement rookie that needs 5 years to develop?

Noel has value as a starting center. He's athletic and can anchor a defense. He can crash the boards and set screens trying to get Randle, Ingram, or Russell open for shots. He's young and can grow and develop with the others in this young core. He's an upgrade from Mozgov right now and will likely get better with the coaching staff there and more playing time.

Sixers say no, it looks like the pick going to fall out of the top 3, and Covington defense with Noel is way more now then the potential Clarkson offers

If we were to draft Ball or Fultz, they could slide to shooting guard or Russell can slide to shooting guard. Clarkson for Noel seems a fair deal right now.

Why trade for an expensive combo guard when you can draft a cheaper, better one in malik monk

By win percentage the Lakers are 4th worst in the league right now. Going off last year's odds they'd have a 37.8% chance at landing in top 3 from 4 slot. Even if they drop to 7 from last year's odds they'd still have a 15% chance at landing a top 3. With plenty of the season left they could fall in bottom 3 and further improve their chances. Those odds aren't good but I think the upside in having even a 15% chance of getting a top 3 pick outweighs the value they are getting especially when Noel is due a big contract he hasn't earned and as a big man that relies largely on his athleticism since he hasn't developed much else to his game he has had knee surgery and ankle issues this season (he tore his ACL in college too) so he seems injury prone and eventually all these injuries will catch up to him. Even if the guys available with top 3 pick aren't a good fit with the Lakers that isn't a bad problem to have and they can trade the pick or player or keep him to come off the bench (most rookies don't start anyway)

'Take out Covington and it's a deal.
