The Warriors are rumored to be interested in trading down so that they can pile up assets for Giannis/KAT. How about this?

Warriors get Michael Porter Jr., Bol Bol, and the 22nd overall pick

Nuggets get the 2nd overall pick, Jordan Poole, and Alen Smailagic

The Warriors land three assets that can be used to pull the trigger on a star. If they can't land a star, then Bol could be the center they've longed for while MPJ could be their Lamar Odom-type 6th man.

The Nuggets would likely use this pick on LaMelo Ball. Considering that Jokic and Murray are still young, the Nuggets have time for Ball to develop. He could be their 6th man as a rookie and eventually their starting SG. Ball fits the mantra of ball movement and three point shooting.

Why do they need LaMelo? They have 2 guys that can run the offense and plenty of secondary ball handlers. LaMelo also doesn’t have the skill set of a guy who’s going to come in and be anything close to a winning player right away. He doesn’t offer much off ball, he needs to fill out a lot, he’s an awful defender, and he can’t shoot yet. He may be a great passer, but why do you need that with those players. They just made the west finals. If anything, they should be trying to put assets together to go get a guy that can help now.

Let’s be honest, it was a fluke that the Nuggets made the WCF. They got dominated there by the Lakers. Jokic and Murray are still young so it’s not like they’re in a rush to win a chip now. I think this trade keeps them at “very good” status and gives them the potential to be flat out dominant in 2-3 years. The Nuggets are excellent at developing players, so I see Melo thriving there. I understand your points though, Melo is raw and the Nuggets have a shot at taking the next step right now. I just don’t see a need to take that next step right away.

Just bc they were the underdog doesn’t make it a fluke. Jokic is a superstar and after his playoff performance, one could argue Murray is there also. Although development is important, a team will never pass on an opportunity to win a ring and the nuggets are positioned well for next year. Lamelo can be good but it will take a few years, no reason to wait that long to compete when competing next year is an option.
