The Wizards are a team bound for the playoffs next year with Wall coming back. Even though he might not be 100%, he will at least be a good player. But even though they are a playoff team, they are definitely not championship contenders.

The Sixers have tried the Embiid-Simmons Experiment and it failed massively. Simmons is still only 23 so they have plenty of time to Build around him. With horford running the C and Harris playing pf, both of their natural positions, they could be a functional team assuming they move on from Embiid.

Wizards-Sixers

Wizards get: Embiid

Wall
Beal
Brown jr
Bertans (resign)
Embiid

They might not be the best team in the league after this but taking a chance on Embiid will give them at least some hope to contend for a title.

Sixers get: Thomas Bryant, Rui Hachimura, Ish Smith, 9th pick, 2022 first, 2024 first, option to swap 2021 and 2023 firsts

Simmons
Richardson
Hachimura/ Thybulle
Harris
Horford/ Bryant

They get a plethora of picks, one young big man who was dominating in the bubble, and a rookie with a very high potential. Bryant can become the center of their future by learning from Horford. Simmons would have room to drive as the paint wouldn’t be constantly crowded.

Not enough for Embiid. This years draft is week and the other picks would be in the 20ies. That's not enough.
But not much missing.

2.) 25 Aug 2020 00:16:15
I don't see Washington making the playoffs even if they're healthy next year, which I doubt they will be.

10 Aug 2020 15:26:27
I know trades like this have been explored before but why not just make it super simple.

Wizards/ Sixers

Wizards get: Simmons

Can keep or trade wall. Simmons would have good shooters to kick it out to like Bertans and would run the show.

Sixers get: Beal, 2021 first lottery protected

Hand the reigns to Embiid while giving them a player who should have been an allstar as the perfect off ball addition to Embiid.

Ethan618

1.) 10 Aug 2020 16:39:02
Why is Simmons worth more than Beal.

2.) 10 Aug 2020 17:40:46
They r probably equal value now that I think about it but Simmons is younger and when given full control, he’s a total beast. Plus, if he develops any sort of jumper, he will be much more valuable than Beal.

3.) 10 Aug 2020 18:00:14
simmons can't shoot. there is only three years diffferance. and wizards don't want to trade beal. sixers are desperate to change something. so sixers have to send pick.

4.) 10 Aug 2020 22:22:37
Betting on Simmons to develop a shot is an unrealistic expectation. How many years has he known he needed a jumper? And he still doesn't have one?

Simmons is awesome in the regular season when games are more up&down and teams don't prepare. But get into the playoffs, when games become more half court orientated and defenses get to plan and prepare, Simmons limitations become a liability to team success.

Sixers get: Thomas Bryant, Khris Middleton, 9th pick, 2022 Wizards First unprotected

By doing this, they essentially give Simmons control of the team while also getting a great shooter and floor spacer in Middleton in addition to a replacement center who can’t play D but can shoot and rebound.

Bucks Get: Wall, Josh Richardson, Isaac Bonga, Admiral Schoffield.

By doing this, the bucks completely revamp their backcourt while adding 2 developmental pieces with decent potential in case giannis leaves. Yes, they are banking on the fact that wall will be healthy but if he is, they will be even better than they have been this year.

Wizards get: Embiid, Bledsoe

They go all in with Embiid and get some defense In Bledsoe. The beal - Embiid combo resembles a worse version of Kobe-shaq but still are both well under 30.

I understand this is very unlikely but I am a wizards fan so I figured I would try it out. If you have any suggestions on changes to make, please say.

Ethan618

1.) 29 Jul 2020 08:43:18
Why would the Bucks want Wall and his ridiculous contract when they are going to pay Giannis soon?

29 Jun 2020 18:35:32
Pacers Receive: Moe Wagner, Ish smith, 2021 first lottery protected

The pacers need some floor spacing which is given to them by Wagner. Wagner is definitely not as polished or proven as turner but he is younger and still has good potential. They also get an average backup point guard mainly for salary purposes. This trade allows them to save money and get younger.

Brogdon, McConnell
Oladipo, Aaron Holiday
Warren, Lamb
Sabonis, McDermott
Wagner, Leaf

Wizards receive: Myles Turner

The wizards are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They are also not a great rebounding team and Turner brings both rebounding and defense to the table. He would make a good front court with Davis Bertans. Assuming the Wizards do not resign Mahinmi, they will have enough space to make this trade.

Wall, Napier
Beal, Jerome Robinson
Tbj, Isaac Bonga
Hachimura, Bertans
Turner, Thomas Bryant.

Ethan618

1.) 29 Jun 2020 19:36:36
Pacers don't need C. They need PF for Turner.

2.) 29 Jun 2020 19:51:50
Havent looked at the stats but is Turner's defense that much better than Bryants?

3.) 29 Jun 2020 22:02:56
Freeman, Bryant is one of the worst defensive bigs in the league and has no hustle. Wagner can play pf if they need him to.

I think we can all agree that PG was awful in the playoffs and is likely to regress at least a bit next year. That being said, it’s extremely unlikely the clippers trade him given that 1. They just traded for him and 2. He might be among their best options because they don’t want kawhi to be mad. The point of me saying this Is there are far too many pg trades where the clippers get far less than what they traded for him. Not to mention it’s pretty obvious to me that a team who just traded most of their picks wouldn’t want picks back.

Ethan618

1.) 17 Sep 2020 08:31:30
The Clippers have no other optan than keeping Bigg- P Playoff-George.
Leonard would be gone, if they trade him.

It was a weard year, the clippers should try to keep this core together and give it another run.

2.) 17 Sep 2020 12:02:45
Beverley should be gone he is a cancer trying to be like Draymond Green but the talent doesn't match the arrogance.

3.) 17 Sep 2020 14:07:58
Why would we assume he will regress? He’s 30 and likely healthy. He should be better next year because he was hurt going into 2019 and missed camp and the start of the season.

But yeah, there’s no chance they trade him. They were still a few minutes away from beating the Nuggets in 5 and going to the WCF.

And people act like losing to Denver is the world thing in the world. That team is really good.

This topic has not been talked about much o this site, but when it comes up, the opinions which I saw were surprising. Why do people think lebron will fall off the map any time soon?

He is 35, I understand that is not young especially for a guy who uses his athleticism. But, he shows almost no signs of full regression. Sure he’s not quite as athletic as he was at a younger age but he’s still in just as good shape. His work ethic is top tier so don’t expect him to get out of shape for awhile. The scoring dominance that he used to have is still evident and if he’s not as dominant In that category, he makes up for it with his vision (as shown in his 17 assist game) . Sure he’s not as great as he once was but he’s a top 3 player. Expect him to remain at least top 5 possibly into his 40s.

Ethan618

1.) 22 Aug 2020 16:34:18
Kobe dropped off a cliff. Hard
Iverson dropped off a cliff. Hard.
Melo dropped off a cliff. Hard.

Wings and guards don’t generally age gracefully. It’s either a major injury or a steep decline.

Expecting him to play into his 40’s is crazy enough. Thinking he’ll be a top 10 player in the league is just ludicrous. This isn’t the NFL where you can decline athletically and still succeed like Brady.

2.) 22 Aug 2020 17:29:10
Athleticism is a tricky thing. I don't think Lebron is actually that athletic right now. He uses speed, force and BBIQ more than anything else. When is the last time Lebron crossed someone up? Been a few years since I have seen him do a chase down block. His one-on-one defense (athleticism? ) has diminished over the last few years as well. He repeatedly switchs to be off the ballhandler because his help defense (BBIQ? ) is still All-Star level.

Thus the reason why Lebron needs a top 10 player like AD to elevate where Lebron can be the Robin to AD's Batman.

3.) 22 Aug 2020 21:13:13
James is starting to take plays off defensively in order to keep his stats up.

4.) 23 Aug 2020 02:01:38
Fredman, the fact that you say bron is no longer athletic is crazy. First of all, if you can dunk, you’re athletic to an extent. Second, if you can get your head to rim level, then you are definitely athletic. He is strong, fast, and has mad hope. He has the ability to shift laterally that many nba players do not have. If you want to agree to disagree, that’s fine but I just don’t get how someone could possibly think he is unathletic.

5.) 23 Aug 2020 13:02:44
Is there a difference between "unalthletic" (your word) and "not that athletic" (my phrasing)? IMO Dunking is a poor metric of athletic ability. Manute Bol could dunk without jumping but I don't consider him highly athletic. Alex Len would probably be another example.

Shifting laterally is a good sign of athleticism which is why I looked at one-on-one defense (which Lebron's has been declining over the last few years) . Plus, his lateral movement on offense only comes when he has a running start.

Remember Father Time is undefeated.

6.) 23 Aug 2020 19:13:51
Also, using the term “athletic” means “athletic in comparison to NBA players”, but overall “athletic”. There’s more categories of athleticism than peak 25 year old Lebron and wheelchair bound.

57 year old Michael Jordan is more athletic than 99% of people. But he’s not athletic enough to keep up with NBA players anymore.

Lebron is more athletic than 99.9% of people in the world. But he’s not in the elite athletes group of the NBA anymore. No shame in that.

Now that we’ve all seen small sample sizes of every game, whose winning each series and in how many games.

Lakers in 6

Mavs in 7 (Ik its super bold to say that but Luka is capable of putting his team on his back even against possible the most talented team in the league)

Nuggets in 7 (I like where this series is going)

Rockets in 5

Bucks in 5

Raptors in 4

Celtics in 6

Heat in 6.

Ethan618

1.) 20 Aug 2020 16:45:30
You put Raptors at a sweep?
OKC going to win at least 2.
Others are nice.

2.) 20 Aug 2020 17:42:24
I don’t see Phili taking two. They’re frustrated in a bad way. That series goes 5 at most.

I don’t see the Lakers winning 4 of the next 5. They’re too inconsistent. I think they win in 7.

I don’t think Dallas takes that series, but it’s going to be interesting.

Utah/ Denver is everything I could have hoped for. What a good matchup.

3.) 20 Aug 2020 18:00:14
Bmiller, Fair. But given that the main reasons the sixers lost by so much were,
1. Lack of effort by sixers
2. Jayson Tatum just went off,
Expect the sixers to start playing more urgently on d and also expect Tatum to cool down from 3 considerably. If both of those things happen, I wouldn’t be surprised if the sixers come out with more wins than people expect.

4.) 20 Aug 2020 18:38:58
That’s fair. The first half of game 3 is huge. If Boston goes up 10+, Phili rolls over. If Phili can take a decent lead, they could make it a series.

It just feels like they’re half way rolled over.

5.) 20 Aug 2020 18:49:40
I think Embiid has had enough with how things are in Philly. Getting swept in the first round just forces harder decisions to be made in Philly.

6.) 20 Aug 2020 20:50:59
Yeah, this has the Lebron getting beat by Boston feel to it when he left Cleveland the first time. Big changes are coming in Phili.

7.) 21 Aug 2020 01:21:37
Wizards never have lottery luck 😢. It’s super fitting that the wolves got 1 because Edwards would be the perfect addition to the other 2 players. At least the warriors didn’t get 1 🤷‍♂️.

8.) 21 Aug 2020 04:25:22
Sorry I meant to make that it’s own post.

9.) 21 Aug 2020 11:07:14
Celtics in 3. Sell the team. Fire everyone. Trade everyone not named Joel, Ben, Matisse, or shake. End this nightmare please.

19 Aug 2020 18:24:29
I’m a big believer of the lakers and I think they are the best team in the league, but watching the blazers game showed me the lack of help bron and AD get. Kyle Kuzma has always been inconsistent and that showed yesterday.
That being said, I believe the lakers will heat up offensively and win the series in 6 games. What do y’all think?

Ethan618

1.) 19 Aug 2020 21:43:21
Lakers are the worse team in the bubble for 3pt shooting. got to fix that so teams don't keep clogging the middle up and making things harder for Lebron and AD.

2.) 20 Aug 2020 01:02:50
Lol, Lakers will heat up? No way, aside from AD and Lebron, all are bums. No way they beat my Blazers. Lillard will heat up even more, watch.

3.) 20 Aug 2020 06:30:51
Dame lil lord clearly you have a fair even opinion not even sort of based off who u r rooting for. I should definitely believe everything u say about the blazers 😉.

4.) 21 Aug 2020 05:39:20
Game 2 is why you don’t talk s when you’re the 8 seed. You take your game 1 win, smile, and keep your mouth shut.

14 Aug 2020 05:34:36
What you failed to mention is that all of the players here other than iggy are replacement level players unlike horford who according to his VORP, is a solid starter. Yes, his contract is larger by a lot but his value to the sixers is decent. Imagine his value to a team where he actually gets to play the 5.

Another thing you left out is what the teams received in return. For example, the warriors got back a TPE which gives them a lot of power over their salary. Assuming the warriors got a player instead, it would be unlikely they traded the first.
From what I saw, the blazers actually did not trade a first but instead traded 2 players for Hassan whiteside. Miami was the team that traded a first in that trade in order to acquire jimmy b (my apologies if I’m incorrect) .

As for the last trade, 1 late first round pick was used to get rid of 20 million dollars while the team dumping the money received Isaiah whitehead and multiple TPEs giving them control of their situation.

I think it is highly unlikely that the sixers would trade horford but if they were to do so, it would not be in the same trade as Ben Simmons. They would most likely need 2 firsts round picks and a second to dump his contract but this is only the case if they are trading him to a team that can afford to give a TPE in return for him. Teams are not allowed to give TPEs if they are giving up more than 100k in salaries meaning that the trades where Ben Simmons and Horford are paired, are extremely unlikely to happen.

Example of a trade that would work and make sense:
Knicks get: Horford, 2 firsts 1 second
Sixers get: TPE equivalent to Horford’s contract

This would allow the Sixers to trade for up to the amount of horfords contract in various trades. For example, say they wanted a guy like Derrick Rose who is making 7 mil but they are at the cap limit. Instead of trading a player to match Rose’s contract, they would be able to use 7 million of Horfords TPE and pair it with a pick.

On the other hand, if they were to pair Horford with simmons, it would end badly for both teams. The sixers would have no reason to do a trade like this:
Horford and Simmons for Kevin Love, Garland, Nance, and Exum (just an example for cap purposes) . Instead of getting flexibility through a TPE, they would be taking on equal salary meaning that they are essentially not even dumping any salary at all.

If you are wondering why they couldn’t just do a trade like this: Kevin love, 2020 first, and a 30 million TPE for horford and Simmons, it is because in order to create a TPE, the TPE, must compensate for the total amount of money that one team is taking on. In this case, it is compensating for half of the 60 mil that the Cavs are taking on which would obviously be illegal.

To conclude, firsts would only be required to dump horford in the scenario that he is being traded alone, and a TPE is being received in return. Simmons will not be traded in the same deal as Horford under any circumstances.

Ethan618

1.) 14 Aug 2020 14:57:05
Sorry I meant to make this a response to fredmans post.

2.) 14 Aug 2020 16:15:03
Okay, lots to unpack here. going to do is quickly and probably not fully explain myself for the sake of expediency.

"Horford is a quality starter". That may be true, but so is Drummond. And Drummonds trade showed that a "quality starter" at the 5 has essentially no value. Its not that I failed to consider it this. The value of Horford's talent does not diminish the Horford's contract.

Yes, Miami was the one salary dumping Harkless that they got in return from Portland in order to get under the hard cap from the S&T of Jimmy Butler. So they had to give up the first rounder. Not exactly sure what else you are thinking happened here.

Your "TPE in return" has value argument is a fallacy IMO especially in this case. Here is why. Philly is salary dumping Horford because they are at $150 mil in salary. So they dump Horford and get a $27.5 mil TPE just to turn around and add more salary and raise their luxury tax again? But even if you do want to argue that the TPEs have value, should Philly have to "pay" more in for that additional "value" they are receiving by using a teams cap space instead of expiring contracts?

FYI there are teams with more than $55 mil in cap space that can take Simmons-Horford and issue a $55 mil TPE.

The last part basically supports what would have been my final conclusion after hearing input from othere. Horford alone won't be traded because it requires multiple first that Philly is not going to be willing to do and a Horford-Simmons trade won't happen because Philly will essentially get no "return" for trading away an All-Star player. Philly is stuck with Horford for at least 1.5 years (next years trade deadline) .

3.) 15 Aug 2020 03:49:51
How about horford and two first for cp3.

4.) 15 Aug 2020 05:34:34
II, that seems fair in terms of value to me but for the fact that the Thunder have Steven Adams meaning that horford wouldn’t be able to start at the 5. Also, Cp3 would not fit well at all on the Sixers unless they were to trade Simmons for a guy like Beal or McCollum. Not to mention, Cp3 is making 10 mil more than horford. Another supermax instead of horford would worsen the situation in Phili.

5.) 16 Aug 2020 05:13:49
Just think cp3 will fit better and can help Simmons control the ball and Simmons can play power forward naturally. They got Adams for one more year they do this for the picks and can afford horford contract like they can cp3.

Putting the value of the trade aside, the wizards can’t do that without going well into the luxury tax which I tend to doubt they want. Drummond is good but he’s not as good at d as he once was, he can’t shoot, and he’s making a lot of money even if it’s expiring.

How on earth is this too much for Beal? 1 lotto pick, 3 super late firsts, 2 decent young players would be reasonable but don’t forget that they are taking on horford. If the wizards trade beal they would want to help their cap situation and this only makes it worse.

What makes beal less valuable than Simmons? Especially to the extent where the wizards give a lotto pick and a young player.
