Question on Spurs/ Lakers offseason

I was thinking about the Lakers offseason, and I was wondering that if they struck out in FA again, is there any chance they would go after not only AD, but also DeRozan?

From the Spurs end, if Pop does retire, do they finally go into rebuilding mode? They have built up enough good young kids (a returning Murray, White, Forbes, Jakob, hopefully Walker), that maybe it’s time they go young and move the older guys. Do they take a minimal return for DeMar, ie.

To LAL - DeRozan

To SAS - Mykhailiuk, future 2nd

Yes, Lakers take on $25M worth of salary, but that still leaves them with approximately $18M to play with, they would only need to ship out $9M in that scenario to get AD and his $27M deal. They would inevitably have to ship out more dollars than that based on the players it would take to get him.

Would leave Lakers with money, and an imperfect but still big three.

Thoughts?

Spurs would want the Lakers 1st for sure.

Pop is not going to leave a rebuild team behind for his replacement. Pop is going to want him/ her set up for success. Spurs are not going to do a salary dump like that. Especially to someone in the Western Conference. He would get a better deal shipping Derozen to the Celtics.

Spurs wouldn't take that deal.

Why would the spurs give away a high level player? They could get considerably more for him if they shopped him around. Do they just want to give him to the Lakers out of the kindness of their hearts?

The thought process is right, but the others are right too. Derozan would be a perfect target for a lot of smaller markets, therefore just to be those offers the Lakers would have to give something up. Tbh tho, I think the Lakers may be more interested in Aldridge.

All of that is fair, I was just looking at a pure salary dump for the Spurs, with Aldridge being the next one to go.

I am actually a Spurs fan, so not crazy unrealistic Lakers guy. Let’s rework this then:

To SAS - Mykhailiuk, Hart, 2019 1st, 2020 2nd

To LAL - Derozan.

If Danny Green and Jakob Poetl have roughly the same value, you're basically proposing that the Spurs should've traded K. Leonard last summer for that package.

If the Spurs wanted Mykhailiuk and Hart I'm 100% sure the Lakers would've made the trade back in the summer.
