Hawks - Okogie,Reid, 2023 1st (top 10 protected)

Wolves - Collins

Wolves have three cheap non-guaranteed contracts, Hawks get their pick.

Hawks get wing defender, young big and a first.

Wolves get a legit starting 4.

Can’t see it. Atlanta goes 12 deep right now. Even the end of the bench is not bad. They are ready to compete. Collins is a young 20/ 10 starter. Okogie wouldn’t be in the top three in SG depth chart, Bogi, Huerter, Snell, even Kris would play ahead of him. Even Reid, will he take time from Capela or the new rookie? In my opinion Atlanta is past a trade like this. If Collins is going to get traded it will be as a piece for an established star.

The only way you get Collins is for KAT period

There are two Wolves trades that I've seen proposed as part of recent mocks. There are also two trades of my own that I'd like to propose. I'd like to get any thoughts you might have.

1) Mentioned by John Hollinger at the Athletic

Charlotte- #1 pick + Omari Spellman + Jacob Evans
Wolves - #3 + Miles Bridges + #32

2) Proposed by Colin Ward-Henninger at CBS

Detroit - #1 + James Johnson

Wolves- #7 + 2022 1st with possible protections + Tony Snell. (Personally, I'm not big on Snell and would prefer to make this all picks. I'd propose a top 3 protection.)

3) Proposed by me

Orlando - #17 + James Johnson
Wolves - Aaron Gordon

4) Proposed by me.

Kings or Pels - #17 + #33
Wolves - #12 or #13 (To draft their preferred of the remaining between Nesmith, Bey or Achiuwa)

1.) 11 Nov 2020 04:33:03
1 and 3. Meh. Possible just not overly exciting. #3 probably most likely.

#2. Not enough. One future protected pick will not get a team from #7 to #1. Johnson for Snell is a push.

#4. Kings pass at #12. Kings already have 3 other 2nds so #33 is not that appealling. Plus Kings would jump on Nesmith. Pelicans may do it, but probably want choice of Anthony, Lewis or Hampton.

2.) 11 Nov 2020 07:32:40
1. Not a big fan of Miles Bridges. Spellman is probably worth the #32. I’d say this is ok, but I would prefer a little more access to upside. It should probably have a third team - CHA probably doesn’t want Wiseman AND Spellman, and MIN doesn’t need a 2nd rounder this year.

2. I agree with Fredman. #7 to #1 is a pretty big leap. I know Rosas wants a pick in the lottery next year, so maybe if the protections are limited, Ball would be a great fit here - learn from Derrick Rose.

3. I am lukewarm on #17 for Aaron Gordon. The price is fine, but he’s a poor three point shooter, and I am not sure he cares much about basketball of his team.

4. Moving up a few picks is a good idea, because of MIN’s roster crowding, these are impossible to predict though - it will depend on how the draft goes.

3.) 11 Nov 2020 13:18:05
Minnesota would always take another second, lotta good players in the second round this year and you can put them on a two-way contract.

The latest CBS mock has the Wolves and Hornets making a trade at the top of the draft. They don't however say what else is involved in the trade. That got me thinking about what such a trade would involve. Here is my opening gambit.

MN -> #3 pick, PJ Washington, Cha 2021 1st (top 3 protected)

Cha -> #1 pick

1.) 17 Oct 2020 16:31:15
Seems like fair value. That said, it seems like there’s a consensus top 3. Moving from 3 to 1 feels like a bad idea for a team with no top end talent. Just take the last of the top 3 and keep the assets.

2.) 17 Oct 2020 16:35:03
This trade would have to happen on draft night, otherwise it’d violate the Stepien rule. You can’t trade first round picks in consecutive years. Value wise it looks decent though.

3.) 17 Oct 2020 16:38:01
Feels like too much.

4.) 17 Oct 2020 16:41:20
Wayyy too much.

5.) 17 Oct 2020 17:51:25
As a Wolves fan, I would love to swap 1 for 3 and Washington (forget the 21 1st) .

But I can't see Charlotte giving up such a promising player to move up 2 spots when the are already guaranteed to get one of the top 3 prospects anyway.

This is similar to a trade I suggested a couple of days ago, but that was all picks. This is Knicks - Wolves

Knicks get #1 and O. Spellman

Wolves get #8, 2021 top 5 protected 2021, Dallas 2021 and M. Robinson

1.) 21 Sep 2020 21:00:06
The value is fair.

2.) 21 Sep 2020 21:29:36
I think it’s a little rich for the Wolves, but perhaps the top 5 protection makes it even.

What should the protections be if the DAL 1st is removed? I feel like the top three picks have the most upside (though all 3 also have major concerns), and I think MIN would hope to retain some access to it.

Also, have you considered swinging this package through GSW? I think Mitchell Robinson is more useful there (he can play now, and give them a piece for the future), and I think #8 plus absorbing salary through the TPE could bring back more win now talent for a championship run before the window closes.

3.) 21 Sep 2020 22:08:56
Barrett and 8th pick for number one and second round pick.

Knicks draft Edwards.

I'm interested in how people away from Wolves internet feel about the following trade -

Wolves get #6 and Collins.

Hawks get #1

Do folks think the Wolves/Hawks need to add any kind of sweetener and, if so, how much? As a Wolves fan, I'm thinking they would need to add #33 as well.

1.) 13 Sep 2020 12:50:29
I think it’s a fair trade for both sides, but I am not sure Collins is really a great fit next to KAT.

2.) 13 Sep 2020 14:12:45
Good trade beer man.

3.) 13 Sep 2020 15:40:48
Trade is fair, but I would rather keep Collins. 20/ 10 players are hard to find. I really don't think the Hawks have any plans on trading Collins.

4.) 13 Sep 2020 23:01:21
There’s no way the hawks make that trade. I do appreciate everyone realize how good Collins really is. Everyone wants him on their team.

That sucks for the Pacers.

There’s no way the Wolves would do that.

Reddish doesn’t get you close to #1. He was very underwhelming in college and his rookie year. We’ve seen nothing in his two years playing top end talent that gets you from 6 to 1. If it hadn’t been for his rep coming out of high school, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

This seems reasonable for both teams from a value perspective. I’m sure the Wolves would be happy including Spellman if the Pistons wanted him, but no way they include Okogie or #33.

What I don’t understand is why the Pistons would do this strategically. They don’t really have anything to build their future right now. Getting the #1 would give them one corner stone, but losing next year’s #1 would mean they would have to wait two years to add a second. Trading Blake or Rose would bring some value, but I don’t see a team giving up a 1st given their age, injury history and Blake’s contract. I could be wrong. None of their young players have really proven they will be starters on a good team at this point.

I really think they need to embrace the suck for a few years. I know how little fun that is. I’m a Wolves fan. I just think it is where the Pistons are right now.

There is no chance on earth the Wolves are trading #1 for a guy they just paid to get rid of and a guy coming off a major injury. That’s not to mention the salary issue.
