Offseason trade idea:

Cleveland - Minnesota

Cleveland trades: J. R. Smith

Minnesota trades: Gorgui Dieng

Why for Cleveland?

Their big man rptation is laughable. Gorgui is overpaid but he's useful.

Why for Minnesota?

J. R. Smith has two guaranteed years left on his contract as opposed to Doengs four guaranteed years.

I'm just not sure what Dieng does that Thompson, Nance and Love can't do. He doesn't bring a ton of length, ability to guard the bigger centers in the league or elite rim protection and that's what the Cavs are lacking in. His skill set is pretty similiar to both Nance and Thompson. Obviously they could use him now with the injuries, but I don't see the need over the summer. If they could get a bigger center with the Brooklyn pick (Jackson, Bamba or Ayton) it would be nice, but in reality unless one those guys can come in and defend the rim at an elite leve, it's probably a second or tertiary need behind another elite scorer and an elite wing defender assuming Lebron is back.

Since it can't be done before the playoffs this season, I'd say maybe. After the smoke clears this off season it will be interesting where both these fellas end up.

I don't believe Minnesota would want the "luggage" that J. R. Smith would bring. Dieng would be helpful in Cleveland (Another big body) But that would be about it. As rkeene_16 stated, The Cav's already have that.

Minnesota has no real reason to do this. And Dieng has 3 years left after this year and is a better time protector than either Love or Thompson.

I don't like this one for Minny.
