76ers offseason if they strike out on Lebron

Raptors receive Wiggins, pick 26 (PHI), Justin Anderson, 2nd Rd PHI
Sixers receive Derozan
Wolves receive Covington, pick 10 (PHI), 2019 Philly 1st if it doesn't convey to Celtics

Sign Avery Bradley (believe to be a better option than Reddick and will be cheaper after injury)
Bring back Belinelli and Ilyasova on mins
Pick up Holmes option
Move Bayless with 1 or 2 2nd rounders or buyout

Simmons/ Fultz/ McConnel
Bradley/ Belinelli/ TLC
Derozan/ 2nd rounder
Saric/ Ilyasova
Embiid/ Holmes

Very tough defensive team, and now has someone who can get a basket which is what they missed last year. If Fultz develops this will be a very scary team

I'd keep Covington and 10 over derozan. Derozan is a good skilled player but Covington has continued to get better every season. The possibility of 10 producing alongside sixers existing lineup is greater in my opinion. If it were George or lbj different story.

Derozan is not a good fit for philly, They need 3 and D guys.
So Covington and the 10 pick (Bridges), both are good fits.

So when the Sixers are in a close game at the end of the season Covington and Bridges are getting you a bucket? Covington couldn’t play D or hit a 3 in the playoffs and they both can’t get their own shot. The sixers clearly needed someone to create their own shot in the playoffs way more so then they needed 3 and D. Sending out the same starting 5 as last year is a recipe for the same season, not improvement.

Also clearly everyone on this site just downvotes everything because if you didn’t like what I said the first comment disagreed with it and got the same amount of downvotes which makes no sense

Sometimes people value "fit" waaaaaay too much. Simply put, Derozan is immeasurably better than Covington. If you want to compete now and can get a star for a role player and a decent pick, you do it.

Look at some of the great teams of the last decade. Miami's big 3 shouldn't have really fit together (none could shoot from the outside when they got there) . Draymond shouldn't fit in GS as perfectly as he does (he's a pass first big with no outside shot that likes to have the ball outside the paint on a team with two ball dominant wings) .

Basketball is won by star power. You get the stars you can, deal with logical fit later. If they want to win, they'll make it work.

As a Sixer fan I love this deal. Covington is completely overrated as we saw these playoffs when he was benched. I would keep Reddick over Bradley bc of the chemistry already and I think JJ resigns on a cheaper team friendly deal. He wants to be close to Brooklyn where his family lives but also wants to win so Knicks and Nets are out. Everyone says the sixers need 3 and D guys but I believe we need a legit scorer. A guy who can get to the basket, knock down the mid range and shoot the 3 which DD did more this year.

BMiller, fit matters. Why would you want to give up touches to Simmons or Embiid to give them to Derozan.

Also, She look at Toronto. If you're hoping Derozan is going to make baskets in the clutch, you're going to be pretty upset watching those mid range jumpers coming off the rim. I'm just not giving up much for Derozan. He isn't much of defender and his offense isn't very efficient once the playoffs hit. People actually contest his midrange stuff and he doesn't get the same whistles.

@Sheeee I thought Covington and Saric held their own. I thought simmons stunk it up against the celts. Offensively, and as a PG in general. Not a popular subject to analyze or criticize anything ben simmons. Reminded me of Westbrook without the 30+ shots a game.

If I'm the Sixers, I'm sticking with JJ. he's exactly what you want and need from his position. I would look into bringing Bradley in as well though. As you said, he'll probably be a bit cheaper than he would have been before the injury, and he will fit them very well. With their oddball lineup, you could start both at the same time. On the offensive end you'd line up with Simmons, Bradley, JJ, Saric and Embiid. When you come back on defense, Bradley and JJ could slide to cover the 1+2, and Simmons covers the 3. Both JJ and Bradley are high percentage/ volume 3 shooters, which you need with Simmons on the floor.

As far as the DeRozan move goes, I think they should stay the course. Fit isn't everything, but it does matter, so I would keep on moving up internally. If you don't like the fit of Covington, he can definitely be moved, but I think he's a good bench guy, and they should use their high pick while they have it.
