Knicks-Jazz-Lakers Three Team Blockbuster

New York Knicks receive: G Donovan Mitchell, F Rudy Gay

Utah Jazz receive: G Russell Westbrook (with intentions of buyout), F Evan Fournier, G Immanuel Quickley, F Cam Reddish, 2023 & 2025 unprotected first round picks (via NYK), 2027 & 2029 unprotected first round picks (via LAL), 2023 lottery protected first round pick (from NYK, via WAS), 2023 top-16 protected first round pick (from NYK, via DET)

Los Angeles Lakers receive: F Julius Randle, F Bojan Bogdanovic, G Jordan Clarkson

Analysis:
Probably the best possible deal for all teams involved. The Knicks don't want to move Grimes, are open to trading Obi but would rather find a home for Randle, & would like to hold onto D-Rose for his leadership and his connection to Thibs/Brunson. They accomplish all of that here trading four first round picks, but only two of them being unprotected. The Jazz and Danny Ainge would have to convince to their fanbase there is a better offer out there for Mitchell than Quickley, Reddish, and six first round picks (four unprotected) if they don't take this trade, so they'd likely accept. The Lakers would get rid of Westbrook with draft compensation, but acquire three high quality rotation guys in Randle, Bogdanovic, & Clarkson to help them contend this season.

Knicks
PG Brunson / Rose
SG Mitchell / Grimes
SF Barrett / Gay
PF Toppin / Hartenstein
C Robinson / Sims

Jazz
PG Conley / Quickley
SG Beverley / Beasley
SF Fournier / Reddish
PF Vanderbilt / Fontecchio
C Kessler / Azubuike

Lakers
PG Nunn / Clarkson
SG Horton-Tucker / Walker
SF James / Bogdanovic

Pacers already said they need 2027 & 2029 1st Rd picks from the Lakers to take Westbrook. Why would they settle for just 2029 now?

2.) 03 Aug 2022 03:08:20
Especially a protectd 2029 first that can only become a 2029 second if not conveyed.

Suns signed Damion Lee to take what little minutes there are backing up Booker. Gordon is not needed. length at PF is a bigger need.

Not sure why ATL is dumping their defensive big man. Mann & Kennard provide ATL 0 behind Murray/ Young/ Bogdonvich

So the protection on the Laker 2029 pick would be to become a 2029 second if not conveyed. Spurs can do better than that with the $20+ mil in cap space being used by to eat Westbrook.

Utah is going to want those firsts from Washington & Detroit.

2030 draft picks are not available to be traded until next season.

No, if they trade Mitchell they would only have 3 so maybe someone like Highsmith would go to OKC as well, and then for the remaining 6 players you waive Jared Butler in favor of Gabe Vincent and get buyouts for both Patrick Beverley & Rudy Gay so they can sign with contenders. You’re then stuck with a full depth chart of the following.

PG Mike Conley / Jordan Clarkson / Gabe Vincent
SG Tyler Herro / Malik Beasley / Leandro Bolmaro
SF Max Strus / Duncan Robinson / Nickeil Alexander-Walker
PF Bojan Bogdanovic / Jarred Vanderbilt / Nikola Jovic
C Omer Yurtseven / Walker Kessler / Udoka Azubuike

Decently talented team that would be contending for the play-in tournament and you’re set for a rebuild without entirely falling off a cliff, because you know how it is to start winning again when you flat out suck.
